Riding that great ol' train to knoxville

Outside the window is a palm tree. As I look at the palm tree, I wonder what I could say to sound like Max Lucado.

Holidays are next week and it looks like we may head out to Antigua Guatemala. Apparently the whole country moves to Guatemala for the first week of August because nothing, absolutely nothing is open. No one works. It is a fascinating culture that I have embraced here. I love that holidays are much more like the sabbath was intended to be than we do in our country. Sunday is a day of commerce and holidays are times to catchup on work at home in North America. Here you have very little choice but to relax and do very little. I could get used to that.

I think the idea of rest is lost on most of us. We don't know how to relax or to take time. We think that the busier we are, the more that we feel that we have some solid use. My belief is that when we rest, we become more productive in our work times and waste less time when it matters. If we belief that we are following the Good Shepherd, then I would suggest that he will lead us beside still waters. In fact, I believe he commanded it from the beginning. Sabbath rest is a command that is for our own benefit. Why do we neglect to obey such a wonderful gift that God has given us.
