speaking stuff

So I taught on the Sabbath yesterday at C&C. I think that I've shocked myself with the conclusion that I had to come to about the Sabbath: I don't think that New Testament ethics requires Saturday adherence for ethical correctness (i.e., the Sabbath does not equal Saturday), nor has Sunday superceded the Saturday Sabbath.

I believe that the Sabbath and the celebrations are fulfilled in Jesus (Colossians 2:16-19). Jesus is our Sabbath rest. I would contend that people should take a day off and set it apart for the Lord but if Jesus is our rest, then everyday should have time taken out for Him. In fact, our whole lives should be living conversation with Jesus. He is our rest and our enjoyment.

The Sabbath is beneficial and I donít think that we should scrap the idea, I think that we should go beyond it. We should reject the need to succeed, the need to be productive and the anxiety of failure to accomplish these things. Money, wealth and activity are not the marks of character that society has made them out to be but replacements for the true character of Christ which finds contentment in all things.

I encourage you to take up the challenge to find your contentment and your rest in God. Iím trying to start that again in my own life.
